Most people think they have to travel far to find adventure. But what if adventure was just around the corner? I created the 2016 Keystone Active Zone map in partnership with Wilkes-Barre YMCA and Luzerne County to encourage residents to rediscover outdoor spaces in their own backyard—whether that means hitting the trails, paddling a lake or river, or climbing toward a vista in one of many scenic state parks.
Designed with the look and feel of an adventure map, the KAZ map transforms Luzerne County into a world waiting to be explored—cities recast as outposts, trails as uncharted paths, and rivers as sea-swept trade routes. More than just a wayfinding tool, it’s an invitation to see the familiar with fresh eyes, turning everyday landscapes into places of discovery.

The 2016 Keystone Active Zone map was distributed to elementary school students across the county, inspiring young explorers to set off on their own local adventures with family and friends.
